Ugo Faraguna. Why do we sleep? From neurophysiology to wearables

“The talk was extremely interesting and made me reflect on how many bad habits affect the quality of our sleep without us even realising it. I thank Professor Faraguna for opening my eyes to the importance of sleep.”

The 2025 season of cultural events organised by Gruppo Forti opened with a meeting dedicated to the sleep–wake cycle and its impact on physical and mental health.

Guest of the inaugural event was Professor Ugo Faraguna, Associate Professor in Physiology at the University of Pisa and President of SleepActa, a company specialising in sleep monitoring through innovative and non-invasive technologies.

During his talk, Professor Faraguna examined the main theories on why we sleep, the role of different chronotypes, and the importance of resting an average of seven hours per night to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. He also highlighted the difficulties related to sleep measurement and the solutions developed by SleepActa, including Dormi, the first non-invasive wearable device for monitoring sleep-related parameters and disorders.

The event aimed to raise awareness on the value of quality sleep, emphasising that sleeping well is not only a biological necessity but also an essential condition for well-being and a better quality of life.

Invitations are reserved for companies operating within the Montacchiello Innovation Park.
